Simple Foods To Eat With Braces

Wearing braces changes the way some foods feel in the mouth. Certain foods may cause discomfort or get stuck in the brackets and wires. Soft and smooth meals are usually better during this time.

This guide shares a few simple food ideas that are gentle, easy to eat, and suited for those with braces.

Soft fruits and cooked vegetables:

Raw vegetables and hard fruits may be too firm for braces in Abu Dhabi. Instead, soft fruits like bananas, peaches, or ripe mangoes are easier to chew. Cooked vegetables such as carrots, peas, or spinach are also gentle on the teeth. Steaming or boiling helps to soften them further and makes chewing easier.

Dairy products:

Dairy items such as yoghurt, soft cheese, and pudding are smooth and light on the mouth. These foods do not press hard on the teeth or wires. They can also be combined with soft fruits for variety, such as yoghurt with sliced banana or cottage cheese with mashed avocado.

Grains and pasta:

Rice, pasta, and soft-cooked grains like oatmeal are suitable choices. They are not too hard and tend to go down easily without causing strain. Small pasta shapes like macaroni are often better than larger, chewy types. Adding a mild sauce or broth can also make the dish more pleasant to eat.

Eggs and soft proteins:

Scrambled eggs are smooth and filling, making them a good meal at any time of day. Other soft proteins like tofu or finely shredded chicken are also gentle. When preparing meat, slow-cooked or stewed versions are often more suitable than grilled or fried ones.

Smooth soups:

Soups made with pureed vegetables or soft lentils work well. They are easy to eat and don’t involve much chewing. Blended pumpkin soup, tomato soup, or light broth with small noodles is all suitable options. It’s better to avoid chunky or spicy types that might irritate sensitive areas.

Mashed and soggy foods:

Foods with a soft and soggy texture, like mashed potatoes, avocados, or soft pancakes, usually feel more comfortable. They don’t stick to braces and are easy to clean off afterwards. You can also try blending fruits into smoothies for a light snack.

While braces may limit some food choices, there are still plenty of simple meals that are soft and comfortable to enjoy. Picking foods that don’t press hard against the teeth or get stuck in the wires can make daily meals easier and more pleasant.
